Every week, UTMB students meet at one of our Galveston ISD (GISD) elementary/middle school partner sites for multiple interactive STEM sessions that last around two-hours. Depending on their involvement, UTMB students will be assisting in mentorship workshop sessions and/or tutoring sessions.

Just like a class, Connect Mentors attend the workshop session at their designated school each week throughout the semester. Each week, mentors will receive instructions on how to lead their assigned GISD mentee through an engaging STEM workshop that will stir their interest in the field. Mentors will be expected to complete a short survey, commenting on the week’s mentoring session and their interaction with their mentee. Connect Tutors will meet with students weekly, on a separate day from the workshop days, to assist students with any homework or topics with which they need additional guidance.

At the end of the semester, the mentees will come to UTMB campus to get a glimpse of what their exciting futures may look like!
